American Institute of Indian Studies in ARTstorArtstor and The American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) have partnered to share more than 64,000 images depicting Indian art and architecture in the Digital Library.
These images have been selected from the AIIS Photo Archive, which is housed in the Center for Art and Archaeology in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. The Photo Archive consists of approximately 140,000 photographs, slides, architectural drawings, and site plans. Subjects include stone, metal, and terracotta sculpture, numismatics, painting, manuscripts and miniature paintings, as well as Buddhist, Jain, Hindu, and Islamic architecture. These images meticulously document a range of visual traditions from South Asian art and architecture, proceeding from general views to details for each monument and object. In all, approximately 3,000 monuments from 2,000 sites and 300 museums are included in the collection. A significant portion of the archive is already available online through the Digital South Asia Library.
