Support for data services at Emory is available from different parts of Emory Libraries & Information Technology Services (LITS) to help faculty and students whose research and instruction make use of numeric and/or spatial data. We assist researchers and instructors with locating and accessing data, with managing and preparing data for analysis, and with managing and preparing data for sharing and preservation. For additional information and assistance with these services, feel free to contact the following people:
(1) Data Management -- helping students and faculty figure out how best to share data that they collect and use, such as assisting them with crafting data management plans for inclusion in grant applications or assisting them with identifying suitable places to deposit data for others to access such as Emory's Dataverse.
The primary point of contact for for questions about data management is Jennifer Doty, who is the Research Data Librarian in the Scholarly Communications Office in the Woodruff Library. Contact Ms. Doty at (404) 727-0498 or at jennifer.doty@emory.edu.
(2) Numeric/Quantitative Data -- helping students and faculty with identifying quantitative data and statistical information suitable for their needs and with getting those data into usable forms. The latter service of getting data into usable forms mainly takes the form of helping people clean and prepare data for use with statistical applications such as SAS and SPSS and Stata so that they can actually be analyzed.
The primary point of contact for questions about quantitative/statistical data is Dr. Robert O'Reilly, who is the Data Librarian in the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship in the Woodruff Library. Contact Dr. O'Reilly at (404) 727-6129 or at roreill@emory.edu
(3) Geospatial Data -- these services focus on helping students and faculty who are interested in GIS (geographic information systems) and making use of geospatial data and applications for their work.
The primary point of contact for questions about geospatial data is Megan Slemons, who is the GIS Librarian in the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship in the Woodruff Library. Contact Ms. Slemons at (404) 727-0003 or at mslemon@emory.edu.
