The Citation Styles, Style Manuals, and Plagiarism Guide provides information on why you should cite your sources, plagiarism and how to avoid common mistakes, as well as a list of style manuals.

Turabian and the Chicago Manual of Style are often used by art historians in preparing their footnotes and bibliographies, but students should check with their professors to see which style manual is required for their course papers.

EndNote

End​Note is a program that makes it possible to collect and organize references in a database and instantly create properly formatted bibliographies.

Zotero

Zotero helps you collect, manage, and cite research sources. Zotero allows you to attach PDFs, notes and images to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, and create bibliographies using Word or Open Office.

IMAGES

Cite the artist's name, title in italics, the medium and support, the date, and the institution or individual who owns the work, the city, and, if needed for clarification, the state.

 

the Chicago Manual of Style (chapter 12) states that images can be cited using captions or in a bibliography. Check with your instructor for the correct manner.

Title of the work

Date is was created

Repository, museum, or owner

City or Country of origin

Dimensions of the work

Material or medium such as oil on canvas, marble, found objects

 

Some professors require that... If you found the image in a book that you inlcude the author, title, publisher information, date, and page, figure or plate number of the reproduction

OR

If you found the image online that you inlcude an access date, the web site address (URL) and in some cases an image ID number.
