Environmental Honors & Independent Research Guide

Finding Environmental Articles

Try one of these 3 sites to find research articles.

Schedule an online appointment or email Kristan directly for suggestions specific to your research topic. The journals and research resources you should consult change depending on your topic, and I can help save you time by helping you get started in the right place. If you are looking for a specific database your advisor recommends, you can expand your research to include more of these databases or, ask Kristan.

Use EndNote or Zotero to make your references cited/bibliography. They each are set to download from the databases. The library offers workshops and one-on-one help with these tools to get you started.

FAQs Accessing Journals

1. To determine if Emory Libraries subscribe online to a journal, we have prepared a simple browser bookmarklet that accomplishes this function. Here's what to do (or see the detailed instructions):

  1. Drag the Emory Proxy Resolver button to your bookmarks toolbar.
  2. When you need to load a journal article, click the bookmark. It should route the page through EZProxy and give you access from Emory.

2. Emory University cookies build-up so try a private/incognito browser if you should get a 400-500 (forbidden or error) code when trying to access an Emory subscription to a book or journal.

3. For extra security, Emory University requires you login from an Emory University webpage and not from a publisher or company.  Check with eJournals @ Emory to determine if the libraries have a subscription at a different URL than you expect and to access it.

4. If you like to read a specific journal regularly, use BrowZine either online or as an app and set your favorite journals.

5. Check for other options by emailing Kristan, checking Library Search for a print copy, or send a chat question to the library.

Google Scholar

To add a "Find It @ Emory" button, go to Library Links in the Settings menu, search for Emory, and click the "Find It @ Emory" box. NOTE: Unlike a library database, many sources found in Google Scholar require payment before providing full text; check library holdings of journal titles in Library Search or Interlibrary Loan before paying.
