The Lesbian Herstory Archives Subject Files offer a wealth of information on all aspects of lesbian life, communities, and activism from the 1950s through the present. The collection s chronological focus is on the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, although there are important documents related to earlier periods, including materials on pre-Stonewall lesbian life and even earlier periods. The majority of the collection consists of ephemeral materials that are hard to find in published form. The collection is particularly rich in materials documenting the experience of lesbian women in a number of ethnic communities.
