Elicura Chihuailaf

Elicura Chihuailaf (1952-) is a Mapudungun (Mapuche) poet and translator from Chile.  His 1995 work  De sueños azules y contrasueños won Chile’s Consejo Nacional del Libro y la Lectura prize as best literary work.  In 2020 he became the first indigenous writer to receive Chile’s National Literary Prize.  Chihualaf has translated the works of several well-known Chilean writers, including those of Pablo Neruda into Mapudungun.
