Library Orientation for Nursing

This information was developed for nurses conducting research via the Emory Libraries

Basic Search

Using keywords is the broadest way of searching and can result in a large number of citations.

The default Field selection, shown below, searches for your words within the Title, Abstract, and Subject Heading fields of each record.

You can refine your results with the limits filters which will reduce your number of results.

Never limit your results to Linked Full Text in any database.  You can always get the full text of any article you need either through our subscriptions or through InterLibrary Loan (ILL).  If you filter out articles just because you can't immediately see the full text you'll never know what you excluded.

Advanced Search

Articles can be limited to only nurse authors, or you can select specific criteria to apply to patients, such as age group or gender. You can also search by Publication Type to find Practice Guidelines, Review Articles and more.  Multiple limits can be applied to any search by holding down the Control key.
