After creating your ORCID iD, you can add personal information such as employment, education, grant awards, and scholarly works to your profile. Adding this information will increase the usefulness of your profile for others who wish to determine what work you have done in the past. Get started with edits by signing in to your ORCID account.
Under "Works," you can add your publications, performances, reviews, and other academic works in several ways. First mouse over "+ Add Works" to see the options:
Next, select "Search & Link." You will see a list of databases that allow import directly into ORCID. This method is highly reliable and will likely result in a cleaner import of metadata. Depending on where you have published in the past, some of these options may be more helpful to you than others. You can also review info from ORCID on which option may work best for you. Strong options include:
To import citations from any of these databases, choose one and the ORCID system will launch a search on your name as author. A wizard will prompt you to select your citations and associate them with your ORCID profile. For Scopus, you will ultimately be assigned a Scopus AuthorID (if you do not already have one), and this identifier will be associated with your ORCID iD. NOTE: Records imported using "Search & Link," "Add DOI," and "Add PubMed ID" are not editable; if you will need to edit your record(s), use "Add manually" or "Add BibTeX" option.
Note that while you are importing citations, you can choose to have databases automatically update your profile, adding citations whenever you publish. Find out more on the ORCID blog about automatic updates.
ORCID U.S. recently published a helpful explainer for how to add works to your ORCID record from your Google Scholar Profile: Transferring Works Citations from Google Scholar to ORCID. In addition, ORCID has more info about adding works by importing a BibTeX file.
You can also enter individual DOIs, your arXiv ID, or your PubMed ID to import your works. Just select the relevant option from the drop-down "+ Add" menu in the Works section and enter the information when prompted. More information on this method is available from ORCID.
If you cannot find your citations using any other method, you can enter them manually (see screen shot below). NOTE: Manual entry of information is not recommended since it is likely to result in errors, and it is time-consuming. Under either "Funding" or "Works" in your ORCID profile, navigate to "Add manually." When entering citation information, ORCID provides dozens of work categories and types that you can choose from, including artistic performance, data set, invention, lecture, and license. You can also add full citations, specifying their style (e.g., APA, Chicago, MLA) so that ORCID can parse them.
