Including Library Resources in Your Course

Using Print Books

Woodruff Library's onsite print collection is located in the Stacks Tower, Levels 4-8. Emory also shares an offsite print facility, the Library Service Center (LSC), with the Georgia Institute of Technology. Items requested from the LSC are usually available within 24 hours. Faculty and students can find and request books in Library Search.

Faculty can request portions of a book to be scanned using Course Reserves or Library Search.

Students also have the option of scanning portions of a physical book on reserve using the scanners located near the Library Service Desk.

Students can have widely varying levels of experience using print collections in the library. If a course assignment requires students to find books in the stacks, consider taking time in class to show them how to interpret library catalog records and find a book using the call number. Also consider bringing a subject librarian into your class for instruction on using library resources.

The Emory Libraries maintain a current call number guide showing where to find books by their Library of Congress classification.
