Mendeley

How to use Mendeley to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. It lives right where you do your work—in the web browser itself.

Mendeley Cite

You can easily create in-text citations and bibliographies using the Mendeley Cite plugin for Microsoft Word. While the plugin should be present in most updated versions of Word and in Word Online, you can also manually download Mendeley Cite

Adding In-Text Citations

To use Mendeley Cite, select "References" from the Word toolbar and click on the Mendeley Cite icon on the expanded toolbar.

A side panel will open displaying all the references in your Mendeley library. To add a citation, place your cursor where you want the in-text citation in your document. Then select the items you would like to cite in the panel. This will generate an in-text citation at the bottom of the panel. Once you have made your selection click "Insert citation". To change the citation style click on the "Citation Settings" tab.

Note: Mendeley Cite cannot format footnotes in Word

Adding Bibliography

Once you have added all of your citations to your document, you can add a bibliography by clicking on the three dot menu icon. This will open a menu where you can select "Insert Bibliography".

Note: To insert a bibliography in Word using Mendeley Cite you will need to add citations to your document first.
