Mendeley

How to use Mendeley to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. It lives right where you do your work—in the web browser itself.

Adding References

Web Importer

Once you have added the Web Importer extension to your browser (make sure you pin it to your toolbar), it should always be in the right hand corner of your browser.

Once you have selected the extension, a window should open. Make sure the item you want is selected and click add. This will pull the citation information and a PDF, if present, into your Mendeley library. You will be asked to login to your Mendeley account when using the extension.

Manually Add Citation

Add citations manually to Mendeley by clicking on "+ Add new" then selecting "Add entry manually" which will open a panel where you can type in the information about your item or an Identifier (DOI, PMID, ArXivID). Make sure to select the correct resource type from the dropdown menu as Mendeley will automatically have selected Journal Article.

Drag and Drop

You can drag and drop PDFs into the central column of your library. Mendeley will automatically pull reference information from the PDF, but if it doesn't you can edit the information or manually add a citation.
