Mayne, LQC Lamar's "Eulogy" of Charles Sumner: a Reinterpretation
Mayne posits that Lamar's eulogy of abolitionist Senator Sumner, once interpreted as a moment of national reconciliation, was actually a not-fully-sincere attempt to affect Northern sentiment toward the South during Reconstruction.
