Annotated Bibliography of Primary Sources
Two annotated bibliographies are meant to set the groundwork for your seminar paper.
For the first stage, gather and read many primary sources (textual). From these, select four of the most salient texts to annotate. For each entry, write at least two significant paragraphs presenting the following:
Primary sources include materials produced in direct relation to the work/s in question (or in its time). These include “official” publications (exhibition catalogues and brochures), writings and interviews by its key figures (curators and artists), as well as contemporaries (journalists and scholars) who responded to the artwork.
A primary source is a document, recording or other source of information created at the time being studied, by an authoritative source, usually one with direct personal knowledge of the events being described.
Primary sources include diaries, letters, family records, statistics, speeches, interviews, autobiographies, film, government documents, or original scientific research.
You can find many primary source materials via Library Search. Primary sources can also be found in Rose Library.
For more detailed information, see the Primary Sources Research Guide.
