Literature Reviews Are Your Friend

Standalone literature reviews (usually with the word "review" in the article title) explore the current state of the research literature on a topic. They are very useful when you're researching a subject that is new to you and provide citations to potentially useful studies.

Important note: Standalone literature reviews synthesize the research of others and are not considered empirical on their own.

Annual Reviews publishes only literature reviews in a variety of disciplines, including sociology.
