Final Paper Guidelines

Option 1: Research Proposal 

  • The goal of the research proposal is to describe an empirical investigation related to attitudes that one could feasibly conduct. Following a relatively brief but targeted discussion of relevant past work, you should describe the purpose and hypothesis/-es of the proposed study, your intended sample, measures, and specifics of the study procedure.
     
  • Your final paper should be based upon a careful reading and thoughtful synthesis of a minimum of six pieces of literature that provide meaningful insight into your selected topic.
     
  • The bulk of your reading should focus upon empirical journal articles;
     
  • review chapters and other secondary sources of information are acceptable but should comprise a minority of the reading that you do for this project.
     
  • at least two (2) of your sources must be recent – i.e., published sometime in or after the year 2010.
     

Option 2: Literature Review

  • The goal of the review paper is to provide an overview of the current state of affairs for a given research topic.
     
  • Your final paper should be based upon a careful reading and thoughtful synthesis of a minimum of eight pieces of literature that provide meaningful insight into your selected topic.
     
  • The bulk of your reading should focus upon empirical journal articles;
     
  • review chapters and other secondary sources of information are acceptable but should comprise a minority of the reading that you do for this project.
     
  • at least two (2) of your sources must be recent – i.e., published sometime in or after the year 2010.
