The Southeastern Part of the Present United States
From NC State Archives: this map is a redrawn copy, probably by John R. Swanton, of a portion of the 1755 map of North America by John Mitchell. The map portrays western North Carolina and other parts of the southeast. The locations of various Indian tribes in the southeast are noted with annotations regarding the status of the tribes. Tribes noted include the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Quapaw, Creek, Apalachee, and Catawba. Indian towns and white settlements are identified, and major roads are shown.
