The Woodruff librarians are using three methods of direct assessment to measure student learning of information literacy skills:
These methodologies are used as needed in collaboration with faculty.
Pre-Assessment Examples
Woodruff Librarians use pre-assessment techniques both to gage what the students already know and/or as a way of flipping the classroom and getting some instruction in before the instruction session. This helps the librarians make the best use of in-class time.
Formative Assessment Examples
Woodruff Librarians use a variety of formative assessment techniques during class to gage what the students are learning during the instruction session. These assessments can help librarians clarify muddy points on the spot and/or make changes to their instructional techniques in future classes.
Summative Assessment Examples
Woodruff Librarians use a variety of summative assessment techniques after class to gage what the students have learned and used from the instruction session. These assessments can help librarians make changes to their instructional techniques in future classes.
