Facts & Statistics

Databases like PubMed and others are great resources for current research, but if you're looking for facts or statistics, background information, or other data about a topic, a database is not the best place to look.

We have a large list on the library's Public Health Resources page of sources for background information on diseases, toxicology, health policy, and international facts. This resources page also contains a section on statistics ranging from state-level to international about diseases, conditions, populations, and other health data.

Background Information

AccessScience: Source of reference for major scientific disciplines. Useful to identify and locate primary research material, videos, and teaching material.

AccessMedicine: Books, case files, drug information, and videos. Includes Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine.

International Facts

CIA Factbook: Provides basic intelligence on the history, people, government, economy, energy, geography, environment, communications, transportation, military, terrorism, and transnational issues for 265 world entities. 

GIDEON: The Global Infectious Disease and Epidemiology Network is a global infectious disease knowledge management tool.
