Introduction to the Collections
The Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library holds some of the most extensive and important collections of Irish literary materials outside of Ireland. With a focus on modern and contemporary Ireland, the Rose Library makes manuscripts, drafts, correspondence, rare books, and other materials from some of Ireland’s most celebrated and influential writers available to scholars and the general public. From the personal papers of Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney and fellow poets such as Paul Muldoon, Derek Mahon, and Medbh McGuckian to the papers of Lady Augusta Gregory and the Gregory family, to those of W.B. Yeats and Maud Gonne, the Rose Library collections highlight the breadth and depth of Irish literature’s global influence.

Due to the strength of Emory's Irish literary collections, the Irish Studies program at Emory has thrived for many years as a key part of the intellectual and cultural Irish community in Atlanta and, indeed, the United States.
