BSN Library Orientation

This library orientation is for undergraduate level students.

About this Orientation

This guide is meant to help you search for academic literature. Searching for these kinds of sources is a bit different than your typical Google search, so it's important to understand the differences before getting started.

The first few sections explain what scholarly literature is, where it's found, and how it's different than other sources you might find online. The next part shows you how to find these sources. The final part shows you how to explain to others what sources you found and how to record them in your paper (also known as citations).

Don't Stress. Learning to search and find literature takes time. It will get easier the more you do it. The library and the librarians are here to help.

As a subject librarian for the School of Nursing, I'm a primary contact for all things Library-related.  Contact me for assistance with:

  • Searching in PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, etc.
  • Using bibliographic management systems (e.g. Zotero and EndNote).
  • One-on-one research consultations.
  • Literally anything else. Seriously. There's no such thing as a stupid question.
