Oxford College Library Exhibitions

This guide documents the exhibits on display in the Oxford College Library.

Exhibit Overview

Anarchy in GA title

The Oxford College Library was asked to display Ron Sherman's photographs of the Sex Pistols’ 1978 Atlanta concert. The photos had been previously displayed in an art gallery. The idea was raised to incorporate material from the Rose Library's zine collection, to document the emergence of punk culture in Atlanta.

The exhibit was constructed with the ACRL Framework theme, Authority is Constructed and Contextual, as a guiding principle. The goal of the exhibit was to present multiple perspectives of punk, comparing mainstream narratives in magazines and newspapers with fan viewpoints in zines.

After the exhibit was installed, library staff used the exhibit as a teaching tool for information literacy instruction, including a zine making session. The exhibit was the subject of a presentation by Jacob Lackner at the ARLIS Southeast chapter meeting in San Juan, PR, in December 2024.
