Guides to citing

Zotero

Zotero helps you collect, manage, and cite research sources. Zotero allows you to attach PDFs, notes and images to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, and create bibliographies using Word or Open Office.

What you don't need to cite

You do NOT need to cite:

  • your own words, ideas and original research

  • things that are considered common knowledge, which include
    • facts that are found in many sources (ex: Marie Antoinette was guillotined in 1793.)
    • things that are easily observed (ex: Many people talk on cellphones while driving.)
    • common sayings (ex: Every man has his price.)
