About This Guide
Just before every midterm break and end of semester, the library
receives a lot of questions about audio books from students preparing to
travel who want something to listen to on long drives or flights. Unfortunately,
as a research library, we don't have many in the collection. This guide
will not only help you find recorded books in the library, but free ones
online that you can load onto your portable media player.

Audiobooks in the Library
There's a small changing selection of audiobooks on CD in the new books rotunda, the round room near the Circulation Desk on level 3. If you're facing the front of the building, look on the right side. (This location is called "MCNAUGHTON" in EUCLID.)
To search EUCLID for audio fiction:
- Click the Complex Search tab in the upper right corner.
- In the Subject box, type "fiction" or "audiobooks".
- From the Format menu at the bottom right, choose "MUSIC & RECORDINGS."
- Click Search Catalog.
Take the call number of the item you want (like CD 8480) to the Music and Media service desk, on the fourth floor at the front of the building.
Public Libraries
The Dekalb and Fulton County Public Libraries offer collections of downloadable audiobooks. You must have a public library card in order to download them, available from any Dekalb or Fulton County library branch.
Be advised that the public library offers NetLibrary audiobooks that do not work with iPods or Zunes. They offer a list of compatible portable players. See also this CNet review of Library-worthy MP3 players.
Other Georgia Public Libraries may offer audiobooks online. Check with your local public library system.
