Research Guide for Bird by Bird: Writing with Animals

Notes and Considerations

Field guides can be tricky to find. Sometimes publishers call them “field guides” and sometimes simply call them “guides.” Other publishers don’t use the word “guide” at all in the title. This means you will need to play around with searches and keywords to find sources useful to you.

The Woodruff Library uses the Library of Congress Classification System [note that Oxford libraries use the Dewey Decimal system]. This means that the sequences of letters and numbers refer to a specific class and subclass. Field Guides in the stacks can usually be found under QL, which is located on Floor 4.
