This guide is a compilation of sources for data on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and COVID-19. The guide includes links to data on different facets of the virus and the disease it causes: cases, deaths, testing, projections, policy responses, public opinion and reactions, economic consequences, and some tools for working with data in different statistical applications. The focus is on data that are directly about the virus and the disease it causes or have been re-framed to focus on some aspect of their effects. It is something of a work in progress in that we hope to update the guide on a regular basis as we encounter additional data about the virus.
We will note here that, for reasons such as limited testing, variability in data collection and reporting practices, and varying approaches for inclusion in official statistics, the quality of the data and projections for the prevalance and future spread of the virus are not the best. Such issues raise the question of the accuracy of even basic measures such as fatalities from COVID-19. Users of the data should keep such limitations in mind and consider their implications for any analyses they undertake. Users should also note that some data resources are updated more frequently than are others. Moreover, updates to sites that host data may have non-trivial implications for software code and packages which make use of those data (i.e., your code may no longer run!).
