SPAN 485 Latin American Cinema

This guide is designed to assist students in Professor Garcia Blizzard's Fall 2021 course with their research

Find Books

DiscoverE is  Emory's main search tool to find books, the titles of journals, videos, government documents, microfilm collections and other materials.

Using discoverE to find books

From the Catalog tab in discoverE  do a simple search:

  • Type in your search terms
  • When you get some results, use "Refine My Results" on the left to narrow your search by author, item type, date and more

You can also do an Advanced Search in discoverE which will allow you to search by title, author, etc as well as limit by format or language.

Keyword Search: Use keyword searching on a single term or to combine concepts (X AND Y) and to search for particular words or phrases that might appear in titles or notes or subjects: See examples below:

Chilean cinema, Latin America and cinema,  Carmen Miranda and film,  Mexico and motion pictures, 

Browse by Subject/Call Number

Another method of finding print resources about Spanish film is to browse the online catalog. Follow these steps to browse:

  1. Open   DiscovereE the Emory Library Catalog, and chose Browse Search at the top of your screen.
  2. On the "Select the select the list to browse" pull down menu, choose "By Subject"
  3. Enter one of these subject headings to begin browsing books:
                  * Motion pictures - Latin America
                  * Motion pictures - Argentina - Catalogs
                  * Motion pictures - Brazil - History
                  * Motion pictures - Mexico - reviews

Another type of Browse search On the "select the list to browse" pull down menu, choose "By Library of Congress Call Number"

  1. For books on Argentine cinema enter PN1993.5 .A7
  2. For books on Brazilian cinema enter PN1993.5 .B6
  3. For books on Chilean cinema enter PN1993.5 .C3
  4. For books on Colombian cinema enter PN1993.5 .C6 or .C7
  5. For books on Mexican cinema enter PN1993.5 .M4
  6. For books on Latin American cinema enter  PN 1993.5 .L3

Another method is to go up to the stacks and browse the physical collection of books about Latin American film at Woodruff Library.
